The St. Nicholas Choir and participants in St. Philip’s After School Music and Homework Program enjoyed their annual choir camp on Mt. Lemmon in mid-August.
The camp involved lots of fun activities, along with an intense rehearsal schedule in order for members to prepare for the new season, especially the upcoming 2016 UK residency for the St. Nicholas Choir.
We would like to thank volunteers Mary Paul, Dianne Iauco, Larry Alexander, and David Evered, whose hard work, along with Jeffrey Campbell, Natalie Hall, and Barby Goldschmid, made this camp so successful!
We also appreciated a visit from the Rev. Canon Frank Clark and his wife, Carol, on Saturday, when Canon Clark celebrated at our outdoor Eucharist.
We have learned so much music and built a strong sense of community during our time there — and thank you to Friends of Music for helping sponsor the camp!
St. Philip’s offers the opportunity to all children ages 4 through high school to join one of the premier children’s choir programs in the Southwest. Weekly rehearsals and twice-monthly Sunday morning church services offer music, fellowship, and formation. Children also lead monthly Choral Evensong on one Sunday afternoon each month during the choir season, October–May. We are the only children’s choir to offer this beautiful ancient service in Arizona! It is not necessary to be a member of St. Philip’s to belong to our choir! Opportunities include music education, yearly scholarships to attend outstanding summer courses held by the Royal School of Church Music in America, and periodic choir trips in the US and the UK. The friendships built in choir last a lifetime, and the musical and leadership skills are a lifelong gift. Come join us!
